Spotted Parrotfish shining like gold reef as the sun filters through the waters onto the reef. Parrotfish are some of the most colourful residents of the coral reef. They resemble parrots both with their vibrant coloration and with their beak like teeth which they use to rasp algae from corals and rocky outgrowths.

Scientific Name: Cetoscarus ocellatus (closely related to Cetoscarus bicolor)
Max. size: 80 cm
Diet: Benthic grazer of algae
Habitat: Lagoons, seaward reefs
Depth: 1 - 30 metres
Distribution: Indo- Pacific: East coast of Africa to the Society Islands, Tuamotus and islands of Micronesia.
Conservation: Least Concern
