Spotted Eagle Ray, dramatic print of a Spotted Eagle Ray, its beautiful pectoral fins spread out like wings as it glides through the deep blue ocean. Spotted Eagle Ray prefer warmer waters, and are consequently normally found in tropical seas including the Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean and Pacific West Coast. Spotted Eagle Ray swim at depths of up to 80 metres though can often be seen cruising near the surface or even leaping out of the water in a series of jumps. They feed upon whelks, crabs, shrimp and bivalves with their main predators being several species of shark. They are considered a Near Threatened species on the IUCN Red List although in some places such as the Great Barrier Reef, they are a protected species. Spotted Eagle Ray (Aetobatus narinari).
