Sohal Surgeonfish, its beautiful metallic colouring shimmering in the dappled sunlight as it filters down through the water onto the reef. Sohal surgeonfish are endemic to the reef of the Red Sea, their primary diet consisting of vegetable matter foraged from the reef slopes. The name surgeonfish is derived from the extremely sharp scalpel-like spines that all surgeonfish have on either side of their tails. Despite their lethal sounding name however, surgeonfish are grazers, feeding mostly on algae growing on coral reefs.
