Habitat: Marshes, swamps, bamboo stands, wet scrub,shores of rivers, ponds, lakes, forest edges and clearings, mangrove swamps
Distribution: South Asia, Pakistan, Maldives, India, Bangladesh,  Sri Lanka to south China, Philippines,  Indonesia
Conservation: Least concern

White-breasted Waterhens are a waterbird from the rail and crake family though they are much bolder than their relatives and will often appear quite near to humans. White-breasted Waterhens live in freshwater habitats with dense vegetation, hiding amongst mangroves, reed beds and grasslands. They feed by foraging for worms and snails found in the undergrowth and nibbling roots and tender shoots of aquatic plants.
