Mona Lisa Smile - Enigmatic portrait of an Orangutan

Young orangutan with a very enigmatic 'Mona Lisa smile'. Orangutans have been extensively studied due to their similarities to humans. They have highly developed lifestyles, feeding and travelling through the trees throughout most of the day. Later in the evening they build a nest for the night through a series of complicated steps. Orangutans are very particular about the location of trees they use for their nightly slumber. After building a basic structure by pulling tree branches together, they fill the nest with braided branch tips to create a mattress. Orangutans also engage in social interaction, although their lifestyle is generally much more solitary than other primates. Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus).
