European Herring Gull on a picturesque cliff-side perch

European Herring Gull on a perfect cliffside perch, surrounded by spring wildflowers against a beautiful aquamarine sea. Herring Gulls are versatile birds, having no specific requirements for particular types of habitat or specific types of food. This means that they can thrive in a wide range of environments from rocky cliffs to gassy islands, sand dunes and tundras. Much of their food is obtained by diving into the sea, although because of their natural buoyancey, they are unable to dive deeper than 1 - 2 metres.

Distribution: North America, northern coastline of Europe including inland Iceland, Ireland, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom, northern Russia, Central America,  northern coasts of Spain and France, Japan, south-eastern coast of China.
