Family: Acanthuridae (Surgeonfishes, tangs, unicornfishes)
Max. size: 40 cm
Depth: 1 - 30 metres
Diet: Algae, organic detritus, calcareous sediments
Habitat: Coral reefs, shallow lagoons, outer reef slopes
Distribution: Indo-Pacific: East Africa to Society Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, northwards to Ryukyu Islands, Japan and southwards to the Great Barrier Reef, Australia and New Caledonia. Absent from Red Sea, Arabian Peninsula and Hawaiian Islands.
Conservation: Least Concern
